The cottagecore lifestyle is based on the idea of a more simple life and being in harmony with nature. Think: idyllic country life, cosy interiors, flower fields, picnics, straw hats, homemade baked goods, growing plants and raising animals. Whether you’re brand new to the cottagecore aesthetic or already living it, there’s plenty of ways to embrace the simple country living lifestyle. Here is a list of my top 5 cottagecore movies and shows, which can inspire you to embrace the cottagecore lifestyle.

Anne with an E

Anne with an E is my absolute favourite show. A series that's so very inspiring and indulging in so many ways. I am so in love with the characters and the positivity of Anne. Plus it‘s a great source of cottagecore fashion inspiration, and the filming locations are truly breathtaking. You have to put it on your watch list, if you have not seen it already.

The Secret Garden

Based on the classic book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, this film is a cornerstone of cottagecore culture. Filled with beautiful scenery and watching the secret garden transform into a thriving haven of flowers is so magical and beyond imagination. There is a new movie adaptation, but I would recommend watching the original movie from 1993!

Howl‘s Moving Castle

I love all Ghibli movies, but my all time favourite is definitely Howl’s moving castle. It is such a dreamy, romantic film with incredible morals and plots. The storyline of this film is impeccable and the animations are definitely something to see. I would certainly recommend this movie to anyone and everyone.

Tuck Everlasting

Another cottagecore film based on a book of the same name. Tuck Everlasting captures the bittersweet nostalgia that’s at the core of the cottagecore culture. Protagonist Winnie Foster, while running in the woods to escape from home, discovers a family (the Tucks) who never age.

Little Women

Charming and cozy, the movie is a fresh take on Alcott’s classic novel, providing a look at the importance of domestic life as well as the importance of living life on your own terms, regardless of what others say. With an emphasis on the importance of creativity, familial love, and never taking life’s moments for granted, it’s a timeless and timely tale for the whole family.
